Est. 1904 · Fourth Generation

A family, a hillside, and a long memory.

For more than a century, the Ashcombe family has tended the same south-facing slopes — pressing small-lot wines with patience, and letting the land keep its own counsel.

Ashcombe Valley · Estate Grown & Bottled

Our Story

Four generations, one hillside.

The vines have outlived every hand that planted them. Here is a little of what those hands have done.

1904

The first planting

Thomas Ashcombe clears the upper slope and sets the founding rows by hand.

1948

The stone cellar

A post-war generation digs the cellar that still cools every barrel today.

1979

The first reserve

The family bottles its first estate reserve — a wine held back for keeping.

Today

The fourth generation

Still family-run, still small-lot, still tending the same founding rows.

The Wines

A few bottles, made with care.

We make less than we could, and finish each cuvée properly. A handful of wines carry the estate name.

Vintage 2019

The Founder's Row

A structured red from the oldest vines — dark cherry, cedar, and a long, quiet finish.

Vintage 2021

Cellar White

Pressed cool and aged on the lees. Orchard fruit, chalk, and a clean line of acidity.

Vintage 2016

Estate Reserve

Held back seven years before release. The wine we make for keeping, not for hurry.

A
The land was here before us and will outlast us. We are only keeping it well for a while.

— Eleanor Ashcombe, Fourth Generation
